We spent a weekend up north in a town named Mount Dora, at approximately 4 hours from our city.
Mount Dora is located in Lake County, from 45 minutes of Orlando (north west).
What to see in Mount Dora?
The city was created in 1880, so this is more ancient than many cities in the USA. I especially loved discovering its antique shops on Main Street, coffee shops and outdoor concerts.
We are clearly close to Disneyworld 😉
It was not the first time that we have seen dog bakeries in the USA, but we definitely can’t believe it!
A cute small outdoor mall.
We came during Independance Day, so all the city was celebrating this event with American flags everywhere, food trucks, concerts, fireworks, etc…
♥ Lake Dora & lighthouse :
Mount Dora is located in front of a very nice Lake offering a great walking tour. The place is called Grantham Pointe Park and you will see many beautiful trees with lichens.
Of course, there’s always the risk of meeting gators or snakes in our area 😉
♥ Walking in nature:
There is a very nice walk to do in the forest and on a wooden bridge that will give you another point of view over the lighthouse and the lake.
♥ Walking in the residential area:
We rented a room in an Airbnb house located outside of downtown (about 15 min walking distance). Indeed, tourists from Orlando enjoy so much the town that hotels are very expensive all around (it easily costs around 150 $/night). But then, it was the perfect excuse to visit this great area 🙂
In a few words…
Mount Dora is a very cute town to spend some delightful time! It inspired me to do a few sketches:
A few tips:
- To eat: We had a delightful dinner at The Goblin Market, a very famous restaurant in town. For a short break, we enjoyed having a coffee and snacks at One flight up.
- An ice-cream? At Village Coffee Pot.
- To have a drink? At The Lost Parrot.
- To chill in a bookstore? Go to Barrel of books & games .
